Rate: PAYE: £21.80 per hour / Limited/Umbrella: £28.47 per hour
Purpose of the Role
Youth Justice Officers are responsible for supervising young people subject to court orders, bail conditions, and out-of-court disposals, working closely with complex families in line with statutory obligations and National Standards. The primary aim is to reduce re-offending, improve life outcomes for young people, and enhance community safety for residents of Waltham Forest.
The post holder will be a key member of the inter-disciplinary Youth Justice Service, delivering both community-based and through-care services for children and young people engaged with the Criminal Justice process.

Main Accountabilities
- Manage a caseload of children and young people subject to court orders, bail conditions, and out-of-court disposals.
- Prepare and deliver timely, high-quality reports for the courts and Referral Order Panels.
- Complete comprehensive AssetPlus assessments to inform intervention planning.
- Design and deliver tailored interventions addressing the needs, risks, and strengths of young people.
- Encourage compliance with court orders and take enforcement action in line with National Standards where necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records on Youth Justice Service information systems.
- Undertake home visits and prison visits in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Adopt an end-to-end supervision approach to support both young people and their carers, addressing holistic needs.
- Experience of working with children and young people in the criminal justice system or related field.
- Knowledge of AssetPlus assessment framework and National Standards for Youth Justice.
- Strong report writing, assessment, and case management skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships with young people, families, courts, and partner agencies.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and improving life chances for young people.
- Enhanced DBS check.
- Willingness to work flexibly in line with service needs.
