About the Role
Durham Council is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Young Person’s Advisor (YPA) to join our Care Leavers Service on a temporary basis.
The Care Leavers Team has recently been recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted. We pride ourselves on being a supportive and caring team, delivering high-quality, aspirational pathway planning for our young people. Our work is underpinned by relationship-based practice and a strong commitment to participation and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Young Person’s Advisor, you will:
✔ Experience of working directly with young people, ideally within a leaving care, social care, or youth support setting.
✔ Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to young people’s participation.
✔ Knowledge of the challenges faced by care leavers and the support services available.
✔ Organised, empathetic, and resilient, with excellent communication skills.

- Work alongside care leavers to create and implement aspirational Pathway Plans.
- Support young people to achieve stability in housing, education, employment, and training.
- Promote positive emotional and physical wellbeing, ensuring access to relevant services.
- Help care leavers build supportive networks and relationships.
- Encourage structure, purpose, and independence in their day-to-day lives.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
