Southampton City Council are seeking a passionate and committed Young People’s Practitioner to join their dedicated team on an initial 3-month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families.

Southampton City Council are seeking a passionate and committed Young People’s Practitioner to join their dedicated team on an initial 3-month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families.
The Role As a Young People’s Practitioner, you will:
- Deliver safe, effective, and creative interventions to young people at risk of exploitation or family breakdown.
- Provide direct support to young people and their families, helping to build resilience and strengthen relationships.
- Work in partnership with the police, education providers, and social care teams to disrupt exploitation and reduce risks.
- Support young people in accessing education, skills development, positive diversionary activities, and community opportunities.
- Contribute to positive outcomes such as reducing youth violence, reducing offending/re-offending, and improving young people’s safety and aspirations.
- Hold your own caseload and also support alongside social workers on CIN, CIC, CP and ROTH cases.
- Work flexibly across different teams within the Young People’s Service, including Prevention, Youth Justice, Intensive Support and Missing/Return Home services.
- Experience of working directly with children, young people, and families.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, exploitation, and youth violence.
- The ability to engage effectively with young people and build positive, trusting relationships.
- Strong partnership working skills, particularly with police, schools, social care, and other agencies.
- Flexibility to work across different service areas and adapt to changing needs.
- Location: Southampton City Council
- Contract Length: 3 months initially
- Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working between 7:30am – 6:30pm, with occasional additional flexibility required)
- Rate: £21 per hour (umbrella)
