About the Role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Youth Justice Officer to join our Youth Justice Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting young people who are in, or at risk of entering, the Youth Justice System.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of vulnerable children and young people, leading assessments, planning and delivering interventions, and ensuring statutory requirements are met. As part of a whole-family approach, you will act as the lead professional where appropriate, helping to achieve positive outcomes for both young people and their families.

This role also offers the chance to contribute to service development, mentor staff and students, and support the induction of new colleagues.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Managing complex cases and ensuring effective assessment, planning, and supervision.

  • Undertaking risk and needs assessments and addressing safeguarding and public protection concerns.

  • Delivering interventions and enforcing court orders or out-of-court disposals in line with national standards.

  • Working in partnership with families, schools, social care, health, police, probation, and voluntary organisations.

  • Acting as lead professional where this best supports the young person and their family.

  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues, students, and new starters.

  • Taking a lead in specific service development projects and promoting good practice across the team.

About You We’re looking for someone with:

  • Significant experience in youth justice, social work, or a related safeguarding environment.

  • Strong knowledge of youth justice legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding procedures.

  • The ability to carry out risk/needs assessments and develop effective intervention plans.

  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presenting in court.

  • Experience of mentoring, supervising, or supporting colleagues.

  • The confidence to work independently and make sound professional decisions.

  • A flexible, collaborative approach and strong partnership working skills.

Desirable:

  • A Social Work qualification (or equivalent).

  • Leadership or management experience.

  • Knowledge of restorative justice and trauma-informed practice.

  • Experience of service development or project work.

Why Join Us?
  • Make a real difference in the lives of young people and families.

  • Contribute to innovative service development within Youth Justice.

  • Work in a supportive and professional team environment.

  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements.
