Job Advert – Personal Advisor (Leaving Care) – Manchester City Council
We are currently recruiting for a Personal Advisor (Grade 6) to join Manchester City Council’s Leaving Care Service, within Children’s & Education Services. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting young people aged 16–25 as they transition into adulthood and independent living.
About the Role:
As a Personal Advisor, you will manage a caseload of young people (average caseload 30) and provide ongoing advice, support, and practical assistance to help them achieve positive outcomes. You will work closely with social workers, multi-agency partners, and stakeholders to develop and deliver effective pathway plans tailored to individual needs.

- Building positive, supportive relationships with young people.
- Supporting young people to access education, training, employment, health, and community services.
- Advising and assisting young people with accommodation and financial management.
- Promoting independence and reducing vulnerability through proactive planning and intervention.
- Keeping accurate case records and contributing to statutory pathway plans and assessments.
- Working flexibly to ensure young people’s needs are met.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving the lives of young people and can demonstrate the following:
- At least 2 years’ experience working with young people (desirable).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively.
- Good IT and administrative skills to maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding procedures.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Essential – Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Location: Manchester
- Hours: Monday – Friday, 9am–4pm
- Contract: 3 months, with potential to extend
- Caseload: approx. 30 young people
- You will need to consent to and pass a DBS check.
