Personal Advisor – 18+ Care Leavers Service
Location: Birmingham
Grade: GR4

Are you passionate about supporting young people as they take their next steps into independence? Birmingham Children’s Trust is looking for a dedicated Personal Advisor to join our 18+ Care Leavers Service.

In this vital role, you’ll help care leavers aged 18–25 to prepare for adulthood, offering guidance, advice, and practical support. You’ll build strong relationships with young people – including those who may be hard to engage – and work closely with families, carers, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

What you’ll be doing
  • Managing a caseload of care leavers, supporting them to move towards independence.

  • Advising on budgeting, housing, employment, education, and training opportunities.

  • Writing reports, case notes, and correspondence using electronic recording systems.

  • Working with agencies such as housing providers, DWP, probation, education, and health services.

  • Promoting aspirations, resilience, and opportunities for young people.

About you We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has substantial experience working with children and young people (up to 21, or 25 in higher education) in a professional or voluntary setting.

  • Understands the challenges faced by vulnerable young people, care leavers, or those at risk of homelessness.

  • Can build trusting relationships, communicate effectively, and stay calm under pressure.

  • Has strong organisational skills and can work flexibly to meet deadlines.

  • Is committed to equality, anti-oppressive practice, and safeguarding.

Experience of inter-agency work and knowledge of legislation and policy around leaving care will be an advantage.

Training and Development You’ll receive ongoing support and access to professional development opportunities, including training up to NVQ Level 3.

Join us and make a real difference in the lives of Birmingham’s care leavers.

? If you refer a candidate who is successful, you’ll receive £250 as a thank-you!
